I was sitting on a park bench,
And along came a cat.
The sight of it made my heart wrench,
It was blacker than a bat.
I was sitting in a cafe,
And along came a man.
The sight of him made me feel safe,
I offered him my hand.
I was sitting on a hospital bed,
And along came a baby.
The sight of her made me feel dread,
Was he the father? Maybe.
I was sitting on my office chair,
And along came my boss.
The sight of him made me feel despair,
He said, "I'm sorry for your loss."
I was sitting on a church pew,
And along came the caskets.
The sight of them made me feel blue,
I tried my best to mask it.
I was sitting in my car, turning 'round a corner,
And along came that blackest of cats
I sped up and ran it over.
I was sitting on the sidewalk,
And along came no one.
Staring at the mangled carcass,
I wept for my loved ones.
