Chapter 1: My Old Friend
To: Rubeus Hagrid
Dear Hagrid, how have you been? It's been far too long since we last saw each other. I've been well, Ginny is expecting a baby soon, and we're hoping that it'll be the same age as the Weasley's child when they start school at Hogwarts. But enough of that, I have good news for you. Recently I've been speaking with
Ms. McGonagall and it would seem that since the Battle of Hogwarts, many records have been... misplaced. It would appear that you never attended Hogwarts, but still maintain your position of Professor for Care of Magical Creatures. As such, Ms. McGonagall and I thought it necessary that our C.M.C. Professor has a full magical education. Enclosed you will find a special letter specifically for you. All I can say is congratulations old friend. I'll be waiting for you at the Leaky Cauldron so we can go get your school supplies.
See you soon.
Sincerely, your old friend
As I read the letter, my heart was filled with both joy and wonder. There was no way that Harry truly meant what I think he meant... Right? The letter was folded in thirds formation, handwritten, signed, and sealed with the Gryffindor Crest. After admiring all the details of it, I realized the middle portion of the letter felt thicker in my fingers than the rest. Another letter was attached to the back of this one. As I flipped the letter over, I was faced with the Hogwarts wax seal. The letter gently pulled apart from the opposite. The Hogwarts letter had my name on it, I had seen these delivered and read and torn open for years. But having finally got my own, I find myself afraid to open the letter, not even wanting to break the beautiful seal...
(3 weeks later)
I found myself standing in front of the leaky cauldron, a special messenger bag that was gifted to me by Mrs. Hermione Weasley. It seemed to have extra storage space, more than enough to hold the school supplies I would buy today. I'm also accompanied by my trusty pink umbrella, the only small amount of magic I've been allowed to use in the past 60+ years...
I take a deep breath, nervous to walk through the door of the Leaky Cauldron, the door that I had been through so many times before now seemed like a door to another world. As I open the door I notice that the lights are out, nobody appears to be here, not even the bartender. I double check my watch, making sure I had arrived on time. Sure enough, it was 7:45 AM, the exact time I was to arrive. I let myself in, maybe Harry meant to meet me at the entrance to Diagon Alley? The moment the door shut, the lights spring to life, and I hear a roar of cheering from all around me. The entire bar full of people were clapping and there was a paper banner over the bar. "Congratulations Hagrid!" It read in big bold letters, and there at the bar stood Harry Potter, the boy who lived, died, and lived again in my arms. My oldest friend, so old he's like a son to me. The crowd dies down a bit and the bartender waves me over to have a drink.
"It's been too long Hagrid!" Harry says, with the biggest grin on his face.
"I hope you're ready for today, we have much to do! But first, say hello to your friends before we get down to business." After that, I'm given a celebratory mug of Firebrand Whiskey and there's a large chocolate frog shaped cake. As everyone congratulates me, I see Hermione, Ron, Ginny, and Fred all arrive, each giving me a hug as they come in. After the party has calmed down, I see Harry, Ron, and Hermione wave for me to meet them upstairs, clearly there is business to attend to.
As I make my way upstairs, I'm met with a group hug from the three. The room is like any other guest room, bed, window, chest, closet, and a chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
"We're so happy for you Hagrid. It's wonderful that you can go back to school at Hogwarts, however, there are some... Measures to be taken."
Hermione says as I'm met with a foul stench from the room.
"Unfortunately Hogwarts has rules against people out of a certain age group from attending. However, we've been given special permission to circumvent this rule." She says, and gestures towards a large cauldron, and shelves of potions.
"These are Polyjuice Potions. I understand It's not ideal but Hogwarts has rules, and students might be uncomfortable sharing dorm and taking classes with an eleven foot tall, 368 kg, student. So you'll be taking Polyjuice Potions to keep up an appearance." Hermione hands me a large bottle, reeking of the same stench as the rest of the room. "We've already taken the liberty of choosing the person you'll be disguised as, and don't worry, there is quite literally no chance of you meeting them. Now we need to get underway, lay down on the bed and drink the potion, I must warn you, this is going to hurt... Allot."
I sit on the bed, contemplating this.
"There's no other way, is there?" I ask them, they all shake their heads.
"Unfortunately no, there's not. I'm sorry Hagrid, but it'll only hurt this once. After this, you'll have to keep up the Polyjuice treatment multiple times a day."
Harry said as he patted me on the back.
I'm not too happy about the idea,
I have the same dream I used to have as a child. It's about a wand, I had always felt that it was my wand, even when mine had already chosen me.
In my entire life, I had never seen this wand outside of my dreams. The wand was white, with a twisting pattern at the handle, and becomes thin at the tip. The wand is slightly cracked but still in great condition, and appears to have a design carved into it. Only one thing was different this time, It was whispering...
